Description:
The Mass Media Team of Loreto Day School, Elliot Road, welcomed Ms Sidra Choudhry, as their special Resource Person on 20th April 2024 for an interactive session with the students of Classes VI to VIII. The session took place at the school's AV Room. Ms Choudhry touched upon a variety of topics related to Mass Media Studies at the tertiary level of education and gave practical advice on how to approach this discipline as well as what to expect from this line of vocation. She shared five essential skills or habits that every mass media student should have, namely, reading and keeping oneself updated with current news, creative writing, editing (of videos), basic designing skills, and creating a passion portfolio (be it art, photography, videography, creative writing, etc.). A student will surely stand out as a promising candidate in future if she equips herself with such skills. Ms Choudhry also emphasised upon the importance of maintaining a creative habit or the habit of documenting daily using any sort of medium. Such habits will eventually result in having a better understanding about media. Fostering a sense of aesthetics by gathering knowledge on colour wheel, typography and space was another key takeaway for the students in this session. Ms Choudhry also shared much about her enriching work experience as a media student which requires constant learning and creativity. She shared facts about current industry trends and demands as well as career prospects in this industry. The students were highly interactive and interested in the topics that were discussed and were eager to learn more about Mass Media and its future prospects. They realised that every person in today's world is related to media be it as a consumer or as a creator. The Mass Media Team is thankful to the School and to our eminent Resource Person that an enriching session such as this could be successfully conducted.
