Description: Loreto Day School celebrated World Science Day on 8th November. 2014 on the school premises where 10 schools from Kolkata took part. These middle school children put up working models and showed their experiments and this competative section was adjudged by our esteemed judges from various prestigious Science Institutes. Dr Duari, our chief Guest from Birla Planetorium was highly appreciative of our work and initiative to inculcate a love for Science. On this day,we decided to launch our Swachh Bharat initiative as we believe strongly that if in India we have dignity of labour and we are careful about cleanliness and hygeine then the complex problem of cleaning the environment is handled and solved with simple solutions..like taking a broomstick and cleaning the surrounding areas where we spend the better half of the day-our school area. Keeping this in mind,the Principal Sr A Nirmala launched this initiave also on this Science Day as Environment is very much a part of Science and everyday issues. This Swachh Bharat initiative also saw movie making where each class was given a sub topic related to Environment and the entries, just like the other activities were wonderfully self explanatory. The recess had a Magic show from the magic world of Science and the various Science organizations put up shows for the children- the Dean Of ISI, Science city, Science Congress, Mr Tarun Das from BITM, Seva Kendra were all phenomenal in their approach , motivation, and demonstrations. Keeping this initiative we plan to use it as a platform to bulid on our cleanliness drive and on developing an interest in Science. The overall trophy was Loreto Elliot Road but it was handed over to La Marteiniere for Girls.
