Description:
On 26th June 2015, seven representatives from world Vision in collaboration with Prayasam visited our school premises to carry out a workshop loosely based on the theme “International Day against Drug abuse and Illicit Trafficking’. We were introduced to a new technique of theatre: theatre of the oppressed which had originated in Brazil in the 1950s as a tool against oppression. We were divided into two groups. The first group subdivided into smaller groups, formed a series of static images to show the different forms of social problems- drug abuse, sexual harassment, trafficking and so on. The other group later joined the first group to change the previously formed images and show the probable solutions to the problems displayed. The workshop effectively demonstrated the efficacy of theatre in transforming human lives to the extent of imbibing the actions demonstrated on stage, in reality and hence emerge as different individuals.
